Role Description
 
Working within the Enterprise Architecture group, the Enterprise Data Architect (EDA) will collaborate with the business and IT leadership to understand the organization’s information challenges and opportunities. This role will have a strong focus on practical, timely, and value-driven business outcomes. The incumbent will be highly active in engaging project teams to understand business needs, identify risks, and provide the needed architectural support to enable solid business outcomes while advancing the broader enterprise information strategy.
The EDA will have a key role in supporting data quality initiatives and will ensure that the “sources of truth” are appropriately identified, modeled, and implemented. This role will continuously evolve the business glossary, the enterprise data model, and data-related policies and standards. The incumbent will also work on operational initiatives including system-level integrations and implementing an enterprise operational source of record such as an ODS or hybrid MDM.
 
Responsibilities
 
As a key member of the Enterprise Architecture team, the EDA will work with Enterprise Architects, project delivery teams, the Data Governance team, the Application Integration team, primary and secondary data owners, and the Analytics team to:
 
  • Support the Implementation of the data strategy and roadmap.  This will include data integration, data quality management, metadata management, and Master Data management
  • Develop and publish data best practices, standards, and guidelines for the design of enterprise solutions 
  • Maintain and build out the enterprise data model
  • Ensure that high quality data artifacts are captured by enterprise initiatives
  • Perform data impact assessments during feasibility and technical reviews
  • Develop conceptual, logical and physical data models with associated metadata including data lineage and technical data definitions
  • Support the Integration team with API-fronted data integration, including defining and designing data access patterns, supporting OData and other RESTful data integration paradigms, and aligning Enterprise API requirements with the underlying application-specific data structures
  • Support Solution Architects in the selection and design of enterprise solutions
  • Guide Database Administrators in the implementation, support, and enhancement of database-driven enterprise solutions
  • Support Analytics team in the design of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and enterprise analytics abstraction layers
  • Collaborate on BI, analytics, data science, and big data initiatives
  • Provide thought leadership on current and emerging data management technologies and trends and advise on how they can be used to support business and technology objectives
 
Education and Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or similar certification / designation preferred
  • 6+ years’ previous experience as a Data Architect or similar role
  • 5+ years’ experience developing, implementing, and maintaining complex logical and physical data models for operational and analytical applications (relational, multi-dimensional, columnar, etc.)
  • 5+ years’ experience in data modeling tools such as Erwin, ERStudio, PowerDesigner, IBM InfoSphere Data Architect, or Toad Data Modeler
  • 1+ years’ experience working with an Enterprise Architecture modeling tool such as ABACUS or BiZZdesign
  • 2+ years’ experience authoring data architecture standards, guidelines, and process documentation at both the system and the enterprise levels
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of various enterprise BI and Information Management technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of MDM technologies and concepts
  • In-depth knowledge of relational and NoSQL database systems and big data technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of information security best practices
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing, collaboration and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
