Senior Middleware Engineer

On behalf of our client, Affinity is seeking a Senior Technical Middleware Engineer to utilize the Product Vision and Backlog as tools to steer Middleware capacity into an iteratively improved product within the total retail platform. Working within a team of Product Owners for various vertical slices of the platform, you will integrate information on cross-product dependencies and feed this into a clear picture of the outcomes. As a technical lead your role is to be fully accountable for the overall lifecycle of all technologies and products within your group.  

 
Responsibilities
  • Own the vision and a backlog for a vertically sliced product in our platform
  • Share the rationale behind the prioritized backlog
  • Be open to debate and adapt the backlog to best capture value
  • Research industry trends and best practices to better advise your vision and backlog
  • Maximize the return on investment of your product and the teams that you guide to support it
  • Work within a team of Product Owners to ensure the platform is pursuing company's strategy
  • Evolve a "DevOps" culture within your team to facilitate a Agile work environment
  • Collaborate with your team to build out automated processes using tools such as Ansible, Jenkins and OpenShift to reduce the team workload by improving efficiency
    • Implement new and intuitive solutions to day/day support issues to reduce day/day support effort
  • Leverage tools such as OpenShift to build truly "scalable" middleware infrastructure and provide seamless paths to a "cloud" environment
  • Promote, implement and be accountable to best security practices

 
Qualifications
  • Enjoy mentoring others and leading by example
  • 5+ years of experience in a hands-on technical leadership position managing middleware and/or DevOps toolsets
  • 2+ years working with CM tools such as Puppet, Ansible or Chef
  • 5+ years working in a Linux environment, familiar with Python, Bash, Perl and other scripting tools
  • 5+ years leadership experience in the full life (SDLC) on large scale information technology initiatives
  • 5+ years’ experience building and executing project quality assurance and testing strategies
  • 10+ years IT experience
  • Knowledge of modern DevOps and automation practices
  • Keep up to date with current DevOps technology trends
