Release Manager (Contract)

The Release Manager is responsible for managing, planning, scheduling and controlling software builds through different stages and environments; while ensuring that the new and/or enhanced IT services do not impact the integrity of existing services

What You'll Do:
  • Plan, review, execute and oversee application releases delivered through the SDLC including projects, maintenance and emergencies
  • Negotiate, plan and manage all aspects of the end to end release process
  • Manage risk and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
  • Develop common strategies for release governance
  • Establish consistent release management processes.
  • Track an organization-wide release calendar.
  • Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks. Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
  • Oversee and manage the software release management process, ensuring deliverables from the development group. 
  • Provide direction to the development and DevOps group on best practices and procedures around production code releases and release management. 
  • Manage and maintain release phase gates and ensure on time delivery through the release phases leading to production
  • Ensure that software problems are effectively managed to resolution including risk mitigation strategy and release contingency plans.
  • Ensure all changes related to a release have been properly identified, documented and tracked.
  • Manage conflicting releases and ensure no impacts across the organization with outside vendor changes
  • Coordinate and manage releases ensuring no conflicts between external and internal system releases
  • Vendor communications
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2-6 years of previous release and/or project management experience, (Solid understanding of project management principles preferred)
  • 8-10 years of experience in information systems operations environment in systems analysis or development
  • Formal training in project management practices preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of software development lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional work teams toward task completion
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and analytical skills
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must
